Family escapes hurricane only to perish in a car accident

| Oct 10, 2017 | Car Accidents |

A tragic turn of events has led to the death of a young mother and her 3-month-old baby girl. According to reports, the mother and child left their home in Florida to escape hurricane Irma. The two traveled to Woodstock, Georgia, seeking refuge with the mother’s family.

Shortly after their arrival in Woodstock, the victims, several other family members and a family friend were involved in a pedestrian-car accident. The mother, baby and the family friend were struck by an SUV as they attempted to cross a road on foot at just after 8 p.m.

Tragically, the baby girl died later that night. The mother, reportedly an organ donor, lingered for several days until she was taken off of life support. The family friend, a 61-year-old woman, suffered critical injuries in the car accident. At the time of the news report, the woman was still in the hospital.

The pedestrian-car accident remains under investigation, but no charges have been filed at this time. Many people may wonder why the police took no action against the SUV driver. This incident is a good opportunity to talk about fault. Perhaps the SUV driver did nothing to cause the accident. The pedestrians may have been the ones who ultimately caused the crash.

The takeaway here is to support any investigation initiated by the authorities following a car accident. An accurate picture of the accident will provide all victims with solid evidence upon which to seek a personal injury claim, if applicable. At the same time, those who believe the investigation’s findings are erroneous may be able to find advice and a potential solution by talking with an attorney.
